Today, many different radioactive elements have been used, but the most famous absolute dating method is radiocarbon dating, which uses the isotope C.
This isotope, which can be found in organic materials and can be used only to date organic materials, has been incorrectly used by many to make dating assumptions for non-organic material such as stone buildings.
But without reliable witnesses the accuracy of the watch makes no difference.
You can only establish the time for the race if it was timed by two or more qualified eyewitnesses who observed the start, the progress and the finish.
b) Absolute These methods are based on calculating the date of artefacts in a more precise way using different attributes of materials.
This method includes carbon dating and thermoluminescence.
But they omit discussion of the basic flaw in the method: you cannot measure the age of a rock using radioactive dating because you were not present to measure the radioactive elements when the rock formed and you did not monitor the way those elements changed over its entire geological history.
Relative techniques can determine the sequence of events but not the precise date of an event, making these methods unreliable.
But they do not even mention the basic problem that you cannot know the radioactive concentrations that existed in the rock in the past.
In other words, the fatal problem with all radioactive dates is that they are all based on assumptions about the past.
This process frees energy in the form of light, which can be measured.
By making multiple measurements (you need at least two for a date estimate) we can find out how much radiation the item was exposed to over the years and can get dating estimates related to when the item was last heated.
